Special time to be allotted for Assam Accord implementation

GUWAHATI: Assam Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi on Thursday announced of allotting special time for discussion on Assam Accord implementation, especially issues of border fencing and updation of National Register of Citizens, keeping in mind the importance of the matter.

The Speaker made the announcement during reply to a question that was raised on Assam Accord in the Question

Hour of the ongoing Assembly session.

” Special time shall be allotted within this session for a more comprehensive discussion on the matter, ” Mr Gogoi said.

Earlier, Assam Accord Implementation Minister Dr Himanta Biswal Sharma, in response to a starred question, informed the House that the border fencing along Bangladesh was being done by PWD (border roads) department.

Similarly, the work being done by the Central government agencies in the border is scheduled to be completed by March, 2012 and flood lighting to be done in 2012-13.

Replying to questioner Padma Hazarika’s supplementary that several deadlines had been missed, the Minister said breach of privilege will be moved in the House against the officials, who would provide wrong data on the border fencing work completion.He also proposed the visit of an all-party delegation to the border areas in August.
