MAWKYRWAT, Jan 7: A book chronicling the origin and past history of Hima Langrin was released on Friday by the Syiem of Hima Langin, Paiem Nangtei Sing Syiem in a meeting held at Phlangdiloin village, South West Khasi Hills. The book entitled Ka Jingsdang ka Hima Langrin – haduh ka por u Nangtei Sing Syiemiong has been authored by Supreme Court lawyer Daniel Stone Lyngdoh.
Speaking on the occasion, the author said that Hima Langrin was once one of the greatest Hima and had produced many great people including Paiem Sundar Sing Syiem who stood against the British by refusing to pay the royalty or taxes on coal and limestone.
Bringing in new inputs through his research, Lyngdoh further stated that the Hima Langrin was one of the richest Hima in Khasi-Jaintia Hills before the partition and its people back then were involved in trade with traders of East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) through the famous ‘Iew Rilang’ (Rilang Market).
Backing his research, Lyndoh claimed he found out that the first engineer amongst the Khasis was not actually Paiem Wickliff Syiem, Syiem Khynnah (Deputy Syiem) of Hima Nongstoin, but it was actually Dolly Sing Syiem of Hima Langrin who graduated from Calcutta University.
Appreciating Lyngdoh’s efforts and hard work, Syiem of Hima Langrin, Paiem Nangtei Sing Syiem thanked Lyngdoh for coming up with his research that has culminated into this resourceful book for Hima Langrin.
