SHILLONG, Jan 7: In the wake of GVK EMRI workers clamouring for increase in their salaries, among other demands, Health Minister, James PK Sangma, has said the state government is examining their demand to scrap the agreement with GVK EMRI.
“We are also reviewing the overall agreement with GVK which was entered upon. In terms of regularisation, this is something which is totally dependent on the agency which is running the service,” James said while speaking to reporters here on Friday.
It may be mentioned that Meghalaya EMRI Workers Union had recently announced a weeklong strike starting Monday midnight to demand increase in their salaries and for job security. They had also also demanded of the government to terminate the contract with the GVK EMRI and take over the operations of 108 Emergency Service in Meghalaya.
Meanwhile, James said the state government has already spoken to GVK with regard to the salaries of the staff. “We have been telling them that this matter has to be resolved at the earliest,” the health minister said.
Meanwhile, Principal Secretary of Health department, Sampath Kumar, said the matter relating to the contract is under the purview of the department.
“We have considered the demand of the staff to raise their salaries and this has already been released,” Kumar said.
