Kohima: Former Nagaland Home Minister Imkong L. Imchen granted interim bail by a court in Wokha, while the Election Commission of India has ruled out his disqualification as a candidate in the Assembly election scheduled for Saturday.

According to sources Thursday Mr. Imchen, who was granted bail at 2 P.M. Wednesday left for his Koridang Assembly Constituency in Mokokchung district immediately.

He had been granted interim bail till March 15 on health grounds.

Imchen reached home from Wokha Wednes evening amidst a rousing welcome accorded by his supporters starting from Alichen to his residence at Mokokchung.

At the reception, a press conference was held where he explained about the circumstances that led him to resign from the Council of Ministers owing to moral responsibility.

He further said the law will take its own course regarding the entire incident and the case is sub-judice.

He appealed to the people not to get disturbed by this and concentrate on free and fair election so that a popular government can be formed through a popular mandate.

When asked on how the NPF party was demoralised about this incident, Mr. Imchen replied the reception given by the people was so overwhelming from which it is evident that his supporters were not demoralized.

He added that it would not be a setback for the NPF as a whole too.

He expressed his regret that he could not be there for the last two days and hope that the party workers will forgive him and continue to work even harder.

He concluded by saying ‘let truth prevail’. (UNI)
