Union min moves CM on teachers’ demands

SHILLONG, Jan 13: Addressing the issue of upgrading the existing government-aided schools to a deficit system, Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment, Ram Das Athawale wrote a letter to Meghalaya chief minister, Conrad K Sangma on December last year reminding the demand of the Federation of All School Teachers of Meghalaya (FASTOM)
In his letter from December 23 last year, Athawale said that he would be grateful if the chief minister could look into his request and take appropriate action in the matter.
Notably, FASTOM president, Kenneth Shadap had earlier through a letter pleaded Athawale on December 22 to remind state’s chief minister and education minister regarding thee upgradation of the existing government aided schools to a deficit system.
More recently, FASTOM president on Tuesday wrote a second time to the education minister, Lahkmen Rymbui requesting a meeting with the members of the association to discuss on the matter within this month.
“The state government is yet to call them for discussion despite the assurance from the Education Minister that they will be called for talks after September 5, 2021,” Shadap stated in the letter.
Meanwhile, FASTOM in the letter also pointed out that since 2016 till date there has been no enhancement of the salaries of the adhoc teachers who are getting a meager salary.
