Tura, Jan 15: Following the accident near Khera under East Garo Hills that left a motorist dead, the driver of the ill-fated vehicle, which was part of Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui’s escort, and a Sub Inspector, who was also present in the car, have been suspended from duty till inquiry into the incident is complete, according to EGH Superintendent of Police, Bruno A Sangma.
The suspension of the driver constable Dimsrang N Sangma and SI Kromith Marak comes in the wake of the January 13 accident where the police vehicle, escorting the Home Minister, collided head-on with a motorcycle that was coming from the opposite direction.
The motorist, who was identified as 45-year-old Joachim Marak of Dobu, was killed on the spot while the pillion rider, who sustained grievous injuries in the mishap, is undergoing treatment at the Williamnagar Civil Hospital.
It may be mentioned that Rymbui was on his way to Williamnagar to attend a meeting with district police officials when the accident took place.
Meanwhile, EGH police, in its social media handle, has confirmed the suspension of the two until further orders.
A case into the incident has also been registered.
