TURA: Chaotic scenes were witnessed at some of the receiving counters put up inside the Tura Government Boys Higher Secondary School where the polling personnel were to submit the EVMs on return from polling with some counters unable to cope with the numbers.

Many of the exhausted poll personnel were angered by the working system of some receiving counters which took very long time for the clearance of the papers resulting in a long queue stretching for several hours and way into the early morning.

One polling party under Dadenggre civil sub-division which included a woman had to wait from 9 in the night upto 4 in the morning before she could submit the EVM and the necessary papers because only one receiving counter was allotted for each and every polling station under West Garo Hills.

It was only after another counter was hurriedly put up that the traffic eased.

The District Election Officer Pravin Bakshi said that the slow pace of clearance at some of the centres was because the poll personnel needed to be doubly sure of getting all their paper work up to the mark before handing over the EVMs and receiving the release order.

However, it was found that the congestion could have been averted had there been additional counters to receive the EVMs been put up at the centre.
