Chennai: It was celebration time for scores of workers of the ruling AIADMK as the party supremo and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa turned 65 on Sunday.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, State Governor Dr K Rosaiah, and leaders of various political parties, greeted the Chief Minister on the occasion.

Various parts of the state and the city was decked with party flags, festoons, posters and cutouts, hailing Ms Jayalalithaa as a leader who would be playing a crucial role in the formation of the next government at the Centre, post the Lok Sabha polls due in May 2014. The celebrations have become doubly sweet for the partymen as her birthday coincides with the Centre notifying the final award of the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal in the government gazette. Ms Jayaalithaa, hailing the Centre for this, had described it as a perfect birthday gift for her and said the notification had ensured that Tamil Nadu finally got its due rights on the Cauvery river water row with Karnataka.
