SHILLONG, Jan 18: Hill State People’s Democratic Party president, KP Pangniang on Tuesday cast aspersions on an early settlement of the boundary dispute and said it would be very difficult for the two chief ministers to reach a final solution with regard to the six identified areas by January 21.
“I have seen media reports on how they have been meeting time and again to end the dispute in some sectors but I don’t see any settlement being reached before January 21,” Pangniang said.
He was however hopeful that there would be a final settlement in future. “Hopefully with the wisdom and the positive response from both the CMs along with the intervention of the Centre we will see a settlement,” he added.
Recalling that during a recent all-party meeting, he had mentioned that finding an immediate solution was not an easy task, Pangniang said, “It is a tough task so we need to go thoroughly and steadily to find some solution. There can be no immediate effect and I do not think we can do that. This is why I think it will take more time.”
Pangniang also said that he would be one of the happiest citizens if a settlement is reached by the stipulated date.
Pangniang also referred to the statement of AGP leader and West Guwahati MLA, Ramendra Narayan Kalita and said that Langpih was yet to be discussed. “Langpih was never included in the first phase. It will be taken up in the second phase,” the former pointed out.
