Shillong, Jan 20: A group of unidentified miscreants numbering around eight, assaulted and injured several persons at Lumdiengjri area here at around 4-4:30 pm on Thursday.
Three of the injured were brought to civil hospital Shillong. One of them, one Chandan Paul (55), a resident of lower Mawprem, is said to be stabbed as claimed by family members.
The other two Nurjul Mullah (30) and Abdul S Chaudhary (38), both residents of Garikhana, suffered injuries on face and back.
According to the injured, a group of unidentified miscreants went on a rampage hitting people at Lumdiengjri.
From the three injured , two are shopkeepers and Nurjul was standing outside the SBI ATM opposite to Lumdiengjri police station when he was assaulted all of a sudden.
Sister of Chandan Paul, who was waiting outside the hospital, Ruma Paul said that she was informed that her brother had been stabbed outside his shop.
She said that when she reached the spot the police were already there and they brought him to the Shillong Civil Hospital.
Calling on the State government to take stringent action, Ruma said that this sort of repeated attacks by unidentified miscreants against the minorities in the State who are permanent residents, has to be stopped.
As per the injured many others were also assaulted as the miscreants walked past.
Meanwhile, the police are yet to give an official statement and calls made to the Superintendent of Police were answered with a “I will call back message’.
