SHILLONG: The Government is making tight security measures to ensure that there is no post poll violence in some constituencies during the counting of votes on Thursday.

There are several constituencies where sitting legislators have locked horns and are now considered as vulnerable areas in the likelihood of clashes between supporters of the candidates.

A senior police official said that efforts are being made to see that there are no untoward incidents during counting.

The officiating Chief Secretary, Barkos Warjri, said that the Government was prepared to tackle any situation.

“We do not want to leave anything to chance and we are prepared for any difficult situation,” Warjri said.

According to Warjri, police forces will be deployed in vulnerable constituencies of the State.

13 counting centres have been set up in the State to ensure speedy announcement of results.
