SHILLONG, Jan 20: A day after National People’s Party (NPP) leader, Nidamon Chullet was convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment for a murder committed 14 years ago, the party on Thursday stripped him of all the posts he held in the NPP.
“We have stripped him of all the posts. I had said earlier that once convicted action will be taken and it has been taken,” NPP state president WR Kharlukhi said.
Enquired if Chullet’s sentencing will have any sort of bearing on  the reputation of the party, Kharlukhi said, “Why? If one leader is convicted it does not mean the whole party is bad.”
Chullet is also accused of assaulting CSWO president Agnes Kharshiing and another activist Amita Sangma in East Jaintia Hills in November 2018 while they were investigating illegal coal mining in the district.
