SHILLONG: Nongthymmai SCC defeated Malki SCC by 20 runs in the First Division final of the Shillong Cricket League, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, at Polo Grounds on Monday.
Malki won the toss and elected to field first as their strength in the tournament has been in chasing totals.
Nongthymmai started shakily by losing quick wickets and that seemed to justify Malki’s decision.
A late onslaught, however, by lower-order batsmen helped Malki pile up a competitive 150 all out in 32.3 overs.
Ranjeet Rai (20) and Mayborn (19) were the main contributors.
Vicky took four wickets for 40 runs in six overs.
In reply, Malki never looked comfortable as the Nongthymmai bowler were tight with their deliveries.
Malki lost early wickets and ended with a score of 130 all out in 34.3 overs.
Krishna top-scored with 24 while Andrew Ropmay took 3-19 in seven overs.
Ropmay won the Man-of-the-Match award while Wanlam Lyngwa, also from Nongthymmai SCC, won the Man-of-the-Tournament award.
The awards were presented by SCA Vice-Presidents LR Pyngrope and PJ Lamare, SCA General Secretary G Kharkongor and senior sports journalist A Shabong among others.
