Shimla: The Himachal Pradesh High Court on Wednesday directed the state government to maintain status quo on the land belonging to yoga guru Baba Ramdev, the possession of which was taken over by the government.

The order comes just less than a week after the government took over its possession citing violations of statutory provisions in its allotment by the previous BJP government in 2010.

Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Yogpeeth trust had constructed buildings on the land in Solan district and these were to be inaugurated by the yoga guru today. Taking up the petition of Patanjali Yogpeeth, a division bench of Justices Deepak Gupta and Kuldip Singh directed the government to maintain status quo.

The government on February 22 took possession of a chunk of prime land allotted to him for setting up his Patanjali Yogpeeth’s branch. Challenging the action of the government, Patanjali Yogpeeth moved the High Court on February 25, alleging that the state’s decision was “illegal, arbitrary and in violation of natural justice.” (PTI)
