NONGPOH: After his maiden victory, former HNLC chairman Julius Dorphang appealed to the proscribed outfit to shun the path of violence and join the mainstream.

While expressing gratitude to the people of the constituency for the victory, Dorphang while talking to The Shillong Times said, “Any problem can be solved by political dialogue through democratic means.”

The comment assumes significance given the designation Dorphang once held in the banned militant outfit.

The former HNLC member added that he would work for the development of the constituency and translate his words into action.

16 candidates lost security deposits

Out of the total 30 candidates, 16 contesting from five constituencies in Ri-Bhoi district lost their security deposits as they failed to garner the required one/sixth of the total votes polled.
