SHILLONG, Jan 29: Running along the entrance of the up-and-coming ISBT lies the road to a small locality called Dong Lumpyllon in Mawiong.
Accessible only by this said road, Dong Lumpyllon is home to over 50 families which have to make their way every day through the bumps, darkness and dangers of an underdeveloped road.
Adding to the turmoil of these people, it was revealed by a resident here that the villagers have also never had any provision for potable water in their locality.
Incidentally, dilapidated road access and lack of PHE water supply are just two of the many hurdles that the people from Dong Lumpyllon face on a daily basis.
At a time when the state is going loud on the golden jubilee celebrations of attaining statehood, the lack of basic amenities like roads and drinking water in places like Mawiong shows a different side of Meghalaya from the developmental perspective.
Talking to The Shillong Times, the resident here further said, “The road condition is pathetic and even though the local MLA made us a promise of black topping, the promises are yet to be seen.”
Although tall promises made by politicians are hardly surprising in today’s day and age, the deprivation of these helpless villagers from all possible sights of development is a concerning matter.
In light of the above circumstances, the villagers of Dong Lumpyllon have made an appeal to the state government to alleviate their woes by providing them access to the basic amenities.
Inviting concern on their very many crumbling issues, the people here still await action from the authorities that could lead to them having a better connecting road or, for that matter, supply of drinking water.
