SHILLONG: The trial of the 16 accused in the Williamnagar rape case is going on at the fast track court of Tura, West Garo Hills.

East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner Vijay Mantri on Saturday informed that the chargesheet has also been filed by the police against the sixteen accused who allegedly raped the 18-year-old girl in Williamnagar last year. “Trial is going on into the matter,” he said.

It may be mentioned that the first trial of all the 16 accused was conducted on January 8.

Earlier, the case was registered in Williamnagar but later it was transferred to Tura Fast track court as Williamnagar does not have a Fast track court yet.

The 18-year-old girl from Williamnagar was gangraped by 16 boys mostly juveniles near the Sacred Heart School at Williamnagar, East Garo Hills while she was returning home from the Simsang Festival venue along with two of her friends on December 13.

Soon after the incident, the police managed to arrest all the 16.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that the juveniles who have been arrested are in the custody of the court.
