TURA, Feb 1: Local bodies from Rongjeng in East Garo Hills have submitted a complaint to East Garo Hills Deputy commissioner Swapnil Tembe alleging the shoddy and sub standard construction of the Rongjeng Model Degree College while at the same time seeking his intervention on the matter.

The local groups which included the FKJGP, GSU, AAYF and ASWA in their joint complaint submitted on Tuesday claimed that work undertaken by the contractor concerned is faulty, sub standard and bereft of quality with the4 plaster already coming off due to a construction related problem. The groups added that the slab of the building is already developing cracks and fissures although it has been only three months since its completion.

“Our spot inspection revealed that the proportioning of the concrete has not been done properly. Cement can hardly be seen on the slab except sand and the hardened surface can be scraped out with bare hands. The plastering of the finished coat has also not been done properly as the poor work can even be seen from a distance,” the organizations said.

The groups said that one of the reasons for the faulty work is the absence of proper monitoring by the site engineer who barely paid a visit to the construction site.

The groups, while demanding action against all those responsible for the faulty construction has urged the Deputy Commissioner to take necessary steps and provide a solution to fix the issue at the earliest.
