SHILLONG: The Ri Bhoi Youth Development and Social Organisation (RBYDSO) on Sunday asked the Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) to materialize their long-pending demand for creation of another MDC seat from Umsning constituency.
RBYDSO general secretary Arnold Sengkli expressed his concern and disappointment over the delay while stating that the KHADC had agreed to meet their demand at a house session held in 2008.
As per the documents received from the KHADC, Sengkli said that there was absolutely no problem nor constraints in creating the new constituency at Umsning and implementing it just like the post-delimitated MLA constituency at present.
Moreover, the organization also expressed its surprise over the decision of the council to resend the same issue to the house and also to form a new select committee to look into the matter, when in actuality, the need to forward to the house or to create a select committee does not arise.
“It is shocking to note that when everything has already been arranged by the previous select committee of the council under the leadership of former CEM in 2008 and the same has already been agreed upon by the house, why does this issue has to be rechecked and forward to the house again?”, Sengkli said.
In this connection, the organization has already met CEM, PN Syiem in 2012 and submitted a memorandum demanding the immediate action on his part, “But what surprised us was the assurance given by the CEM to implement the same in full swing but till date, there was no sign of progress”, RBYDSO general secretary said.
The organization maintained that they will follow-up the matter and look forward to see their demands being met very soon.
