SHILLONG, Feb 8: The dissidents in the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) have already been expelled, state party president, Ernest Mawrie, has informed, while ruling out the presence of dissidents in the party.
Mawrie said this in the wake of S Thabah, who had identified himself as the BJP’s Ri-Bhoi district president, informing that the dissident camp in the state BJP has compiled a “failed” report against Mawrie for signing and submitting to the BJP high command.
“We do not have dissident group, we are one. Some people go to media and claim they are part of the dissident group; I do not how can they claim to be dissident group, and when they are not even from the party, they do not have a valid ground to do that,” said Mawrie on Tuesday.
Informing that the disciplinary committee of the BJP has already expelled those claiming to be part of the dissident group, Mawrie said, “Since they have already been expelled, we do not count them as members and their report carries no value.”
“In Ri-Bhoi, we have new committee and new district president and new mandal committee and these claiming to be dissidents are not from the party,” he added.
It may be mentioned that Thabah had, in a statement, said that the report against Mawrie is ready and expected to be signed by more than 1,000 party members underlining his failed state party presidentship.
According to Thabah, the report, which reportedly has details of how many leaders have resigned from the state level down to the mandals in protest against Mawrie’s leadership, will be submitted to the BJP’s central leadership after the Assembly elections to five states.
