Meghalaya to provide ex-gratia for Covid-19 deaths

TURA, Feb 9: Meghalaya government has decided to provide Gratuitous Relief (GR) in the form of one time ex-gratia for persons dying of Covid-19 with effect from 2020.

According to a release issued here, the one-time ex-gratia payment- an amount of Rs 50,000/- per person will be paid to the family or next of kin of the deceased. Families who wish to claim the benefit are to submit their claims through a form issued by the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) or the office of the Deputy Commissioner (Relief), along with Covid-19 death certificate from the competent authority and bank details.

Eligible families from West Garo Hills have been instructed to approach the office of the respective BDOs or the Deputy Commissioner to claim the relief. The form for claiming the relief can be obtained from the Deputy Commissioner’s Office in Tura, the release informed.
