SHILLONG, Feb 9: The division bench of the High Court of Meghalaya has asked the Secretary, Health department, to file an affidavit dealing with the deficiencies in health services as noticed in the previous orders.
Hearing a PIL in relation to the deficiencies in health services in Meghalaya, the division bench consisting of Chief Justice Sanjib Banerjee and Justice W Diengdoh said that though the rise in the pandemic cases appears to be tapering off, a report in such regard is awaited in a different matter from the Health Secretary of the State.
The Court observed that this may not be an appropriate time to look into the overall deficiency in health services in the state, since the state, at present, has to be more engaged in dealing with the pandemic and administering the vaccine, including the booster dose and doses for minors that have been sanctioned.
“Let the matter appear six weeks hence after the present surge, hopefully, abates. The Health Secretary should file an affidavit dealing with the deficiencies noticed in the previous orders, with reference to the geographical locations of healthcare facilities, the population, the major illnesses that afflict the citizens in the State and the like,” the Court said.
