Shillong, Feb 10: The Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP) sees the recent joining of the ruling MDA by the remaining five congress MLAs of Meghalaya as a good sign for the regional parties.

HSPDP is an ally of the NPP-led Meghalaya Democratic Alliance (MDA) government.  The HSPDP president KP Pangniang said with Congress being in the process of getting wiped out in the state politics, a new era for regional parties has begun.

“With the joining of the five Congress MLA, the true picture of a national party has been exposed,” the HSPDP leader said.

The ruling NPP has welcomed the move of the Congress MLAs but ruled out cabinet berth for the Congress MLAs.

It may be mentioned that the five remaining MLAs of the Congress joined the ruling MDA sans approval from the state and central party leadership
