TURA, Feb 11: The ongoing hullabaloo in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) on Friday took a dramatic turn after the Council employees, under the banner of Non-Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA), withdrew their support to the agitating groups from Garo Hills region who are clamouring for the ouster of the newly elected CEM, Rakesh A Sangma.
In their letter of clarification to the Secretary of the GHADC, the Secretary of the NGEA said that it would be inappropriate for them, as Council employees, to go against the authority by partaking in the ongoing protests.
“We are unable to be part of the protest as it would be awkward to go against those under whose authority we are working,” the clarification said, while appealing to the authority to understand their situation.
The withdrawal of support comes just three days ahead of the massive rally, announced by combined groups, which will take place on the GHADC office premises.
The public rally on Monday is expected to witness a participation of various groups from all over Garo Hills.
Meanwhile, the Executive Committee of the GHADC has directed all its officials and staff to carry with them their office ID cards and produce them as and when required.
The order issued in this regard also informed that officials and staff would be issued car passes for entry into the Council premises.
