SHILLONG, Feb 12: Rajya Sabha member, WR Kharlukhi has expressed ignorance on the reports that the five Congress MLAs are negotiating with the National People’s Party (NPP) as a prelude to joining the ruling party.
Kharlukhi, who is also the NPP state president, said the doors of the NPP are open for anyone willing to join.
“Whether or not they will join us is something that will unfold in the months to come. I cannot say anything at this moment but I reiterate that our doors are open for everyone,” he said.
All India Trinamool Congress leader, Mukul Sangma had on Friday claimed the Congress MLAs were engaged in backdoor discussions and negotiations with the NPP.
Speaking about the Congress leaders’ decision to support the government, Kharlukhi said he was happy that the government’s efforts to improve the overall situation are paying off as evident from leaders of other political parties choosing to align with it.
“This in itself is a proof that the work put in by the NPP and its other coalition partners inspires others to join and be a part of the team and work collectively,” he added. Kharlukhi said it is too early to predict how the NPP will fare in next year’s Assembly elections as people will ultimately decide, but things are looking good for the party.
