SHILLONG, Feb 15: Assembly Speaker, Metbah Lyngdoh on Tuesday said that they intend to hold the autumn session in the new Assembly building. “But the progress of work has really slowed down due to the COVID-19 pandemic. This is something which is beyond our control,” he said.
The revised target to complete the project is the end of June or the middle of July, he added. “It will take another month’s time for commissioning and testing the project. We are hoping that there is no more delay in the implementation of the project,” the Speaker said.
The construction agency was facing difficulties in erecting the dome on the top of the 85-metre RCC structure, thus contributing to the delay.
Lyngdoh had earlier said the dome will be erected by the third week of February and that the government had assured flow of funds.
“We are awaiting the Rs 100 crore we sought from the Centre,” he said.
