Nongstoin, Feb 16: The Hynniewtrep Achik National Movement (HANM), West Khasi Hills District Unit on Tuesday has demanded the contractor to speed-up for the construction of an intermediate lane from Sohpian – Nongstoin.

The 7 KM road from Sohpian to Nongstoin happens to be one of the major roads for the people of Nongstoin as it connects NH-44E to Nongstoin town.

Though the tender for construction of the 7 km stretch of road was sanctioned in 2020, the contractor is yet to start the main works which include widening and blacktopping as per the guidelines.

An inspection carried out by the HANM members lead by Wilis Sohshang as its President has found that there were only 5 labourers who were making guard walls and no machinery were available in the area and there was no sign for  starting the construction by the contractor soon.

The members of the HANM has contacted the contractor who implemented the said work and urged him to speed-up the construction by engaging more labourers and machinery before the rainy season and the Contractor also  that he would start the work as soon as possible.

Wilis Sohshang told pressmen here that the HANM has assured to follow up the matter whether the construction of the road from Sohpian to Nongstoin will be start before the rainy season.
