Some AITC leaders in Meghalaya keen to join NPP: Conrad

Shillong, Feb 17: Meghalaya Chief Minister and National People’s Party (NPP), national president, Conrad K Sangma, has revealed that some leaders of the Opposition All India Trinamool Congress (AITC), Meghalaya unit, have expressed keenness to join the ruling party.

He said that AITC leaders, not only from Garo Hills but also from Khasi and Jaintia Hills had reached out to him, adding that the party would continue to engage with them.

When drawn to reports of a split within the AITC-Meghalaya, the Chief Minister didn’t look surprised and stated that cracks and tensions had surfaced within the AITC.

Meanwhile, the ruling NPP in Meghalaya received a shot in the arm with the joining of TMC MDC from Ampati, Stevie Marak in Shillong today.

Conrad Sangma said this process would continue and the party was expecting more leaders to join the NPP in the coming days.
