SHILLONG: Permanent Representative to the UN, Dino DG Dympep on Monday, deliberated on the issue of violence against children at the 22nd Session of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.

“South Asian Countries must critically address the issue of violence against children as a priority by demonstrating that positive change and progress are possible within their current legal instruments and public policies, in a coordinated way,” Dympep said.

Dympep pointed out that India is the home to 440 million people under the age of 18 -almost 19% of the world’s children and more than one-third of the country’s population. “In India, children’s vulnerabilities and exposure to violation of their rights remain a big unresolved question today,” he added.

According to the National Crime Records Bureau, the cases of rape and murder of children is increasing every year and 53% of children in India faced one or the other kind of child sexual abuses.

The Session is currently being presided over by His Excellency, Remigiusz A Henczel, the President of the UN Human Rights Council and the Current Ambassador of Poland.
