SHILLONG, Feb 19: The much-delayed Crowborough Hotel is expected to be ready by April.
Sources said the five-star project would be completed in April with works such as setting the furniture in the guestrooms being carried out. Smoke detectors and speakers are also being installed.
The finishing touch is being given to the restaurant and bar areas of the hotel apart from the landscaping.
The hotel’s parking space is the biggest concern for the stakeholders.
The hotel can accommodate 30 vehicles at most and talks are on between the management and the government for an alternative parking space.
The Crowborough Hotel, proposed in 1987, missed several deadlines for completion in 35 years.
The project will be handed over to the Taj Group after completion.
The lessee implementing the project entered into an agreement with Aura Hotels and Resorts Private Limited that was granted a loan of ₹45-crore by the Meghalaya Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) for completion of construction. The hotel, offering suites and a banquet hall besides standard rooms, can provide to about 150 people.
The Meghalaya government had in 2019 had engaged the Indian Hotels Co. Ltd (Taj Vivanta) to operate the hotel.
