NONGPOH: As a fall out of the recent incident in Ri-Bhoi, where a youth lost his life due to indiscriminate blasting of boulders, the KSU North Khasi Hills district along with the RBYF central body on Monday banned blasting/use of explosives till the erring officials are ‘put behind bars’.

The two NGOs, however, will allow the other works relating to the ongoing construction of the four-lane project, being implemented by M/s Ramky Infrastructure, to carry on as scheduled.

The KSU (NKH) president F Kharkamni also met Ri-Bhoi SP CVS Reddy to enquire about the progress of the case said, “The SP was apparently unaware of the entire sequence of events relating to the incident and had to depend upon his subordinate for the queries raised by them. He simply said that the Ramky staff are absconding.”

The KSU members could meet the Ri-Bhoi Deputy Commissioner Akashdeep who was out of station.

The victim, Baniarap Markhap whom was on his way from Guwahati, died on the spot at Shangbangla following careless blasting of boulders in the area. His family members, though, had a narrow escape.
