SHILLONG, Feb 24: Former Home minister and Congress member, Robert G Lyngdoh will stick with the grand old party even though some of his family members have already sought to better their political career by joining the ruling National People’s Party.
Suspended CLP leader, Ampareen Lyngdoh is most likely to follow her spouse (Fantin J Lakadong) and her sister (Jasmine Lyngdoh) and join the NPP, but the former Home minister made it clear that he will stick with a flagging Congress, even as he asserted that they have their own reasons and he does not judge them.
“It is their understanding that they want to go to a particular party for their own political requirements and I cannot judge what I don’t understand,” he said.
He also pointed out that he joined the Congress because of its secular nature, its new dispensation and also because his siblings were with the party.
On the future of the Congress party, he said, “We have to revive the party and ensure that it does well in the elections. Barring a few leaders, most of the party workers and supporters are still with the Congress and the party president must regain their trust.”
Meanwhile, in a fresh development, Congress working president PN Syiem has been entrusted to act as president of the Shillong City Congress Committee (SCCC) until and unless a full-fledged president is appointed.
The decision was taken during a party meeting here on Thursday.
Syiem’s additional responsibility comes in the wake of the suspension of all three party MLAs in Shillong.
