Office for District Housing Officer
NONGSTOIN, March 2: The newly constructed office building of the District Housing Officer, Nongstoin was inaugurated in a programme held on Wednesday here. Local MLA and Meghalaya State Law Commission chairman, M Byrsat inaugurated the new office in the presence of Director of Housing, DD Sangma, Deputy Commissioner, PD Sangma, ADC, HK Thabah, DSP, B Kharjana, EACs, district heads, Sordar and local elders of Ladweitang, Nongstoin. Byrsat congratulated the District Health Officer’s office on receiving the new building, which was earlier functioning out of the DC office in Nongstoin. Renovated at an estimated cost of Rs 19 lakh, He further expressed his happiness on the fact that the significant Housing department which has been taking care of the downtrodden people in the region can now render better services with its new, full-fledged office.
School introduced to martial arts
NONGSTOIN, March 2: The West Garo Hills Pencak Silat Association introduced martial arts at Morning Glory Secondary School in Danak Bandua near Tura and also organised an awareness programme. Speaking at the programme, Chief Instructor of Pencak Silat Martial Arts, ED Marak, said that the importance of developing the skill of martial arts is not only to develop strength or for self defence but it also has scope as career. In his address, Chief Adviser of the Association, Rakkan M Sangma, said, “There are reports of crimes against women, human trafficking, assault cases which we hear about from visual and print media. Today’s world is not secure for all. Anything can happen at anytime, anywhere. So, we should be prepared to defend ourselves at this juncture. In view of this, we need to learn martial arts for our own safety.”
