SHILLONG, March 3: The state government is hopeful that Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s upcoming meeting with Meghalaya and Assam will culminate in the final solution to six of the 12 areas of border disputes between the two states.
The meeting has been scheduled for March 9 at 6 pm in New Delhi.
“We will see what happens. I have been asked to come and the Assam Chief Minister (Himanta Biswa Sarma) has also been asked to come. He (Shah) will brief us on that day,” Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma said on Thursday.
Exuding confidence that the solution will be based on the discussions and the reports the two states submitted to Shah, Sangma said, “I am hopeful that we will take a final call and close the chapter for the first six locations.”
The two states had submitted a joint report and a joint statement to the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) a few weeks ago.
Earlier, Sangma stated the MHA had sought a report from the Survey of India and others.
The proposed meeting of the two CMs with Shah was postponed earlier as the latter was preoccupied with electioneering.
