SHILLONG, March 4: The Congress on Friday left the fate of the five suspended party MLAs in the hands of the Congress’ top brass that include presidents of various party committees in the state.
Informing this after a party meeting, working president of state Congress, PN Syiem, said that the top brass of state Congress will soon hold deliberations in this regard.
Meanwhile, Ampareen Lyngdoh, has made it clear that the suspended Congress MLAs will no longer hold talks with the state party on their future in Congress.
“We are not going to engage any further in this drama. Somebody has rooted us out of the party and when you suspend party men or women, you are showing them the door and saying bye,” said the suspended CLP leader on Friday.
“They may interpret this distancing as per their wishes because we are not interested in engaging individually or as a group,” she added.
Ampareen contended that the suspended party leaders will keep mum until there are concerted efforts from the party to revoke their suspension.
“Till now, there has been no godmother or father and we have been completely left orphaned — that is something bitter for us to experience. We are now in a position where we need to look for a foster parent and if that foster parent does take care, so be it,” she said.
When pointed out that the suspended MLAs are being criticised for extending support to the NPP-led MDA Government for personal gain, Lyngdoh argued, “Of course, I will personally gain, but for my constituency. Did anybody help us when we were not personally gaining? I became MLA by the blessings of my people, and my people have a dream for me. Is it wrong for me to follow that dream?”
