SHILLONG, March 5: Indian Political Action Committee (I-PAC), the political strategist helping the All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) form its base in Meghalaya in view of the 2023 assembly polls, has landed in trouble after it purportedly failed to clear vehicle rental to the tune of Rs 10 lakh.
A concerned businessman, on condition of anonymity, stated that he was engaged to arrange vehicles for I-PAC officials and staffs in Shillong and Tura since December last year.
This businessman was handed two cheques, one for Rs 4.64 lakh and the other for Rs 2 lakh, which bounced.
On Saturday, the I-PAC asked the businessman to return the bounced cheques, following which it would make the payment due. However, the businessman has refused to do so until their dues are paid.
Earlier, the businessman had alleged that the drivers touring with the I-PAC team were being harassed by their vehicle owners for delaying the rentals due. Moreover, the I-PAC team has allegedly changed the vehicles, which no longer concerns this businessman putting him in quandary.
The amount due to the businessman is Rs 6.89 lakh for Shillong region and Rs 8.33 lakh for Garo Hills region. While only Rs 1 lakh has been transferred, the businessman states that the I-PAC has also refused to pay charge for extra distance travelled, which comes to Rs 1.27 lakh.
