Agartala: The delay in finalizing electoral alliance with Congress and a section of Congress leaders’ negative approach towards the INPT were among the major causes of Congress-INPT combine’s poll debacle in the Assembly elections, according to party leaders.

The Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT) was offered eleven ST reserved seats as part of electoral understanding with Congress.

None of its candidate could win the election this time triggering an alarm bell among party leaders.

Party leaders, who attended a crucial meeting- Central Executive Committee (CEC) at Agartala Press Club here on Saturday night have strongly viewed that the delay in finalizing electoral understanding has cost dear for the party.

Besides, a section of Congress leaders, who had not ‘welcomed’ the electoral understanding between two parties, had also acted against the combine to ensure its defeat.

They also opined there was lack in the positive approach towards the INPT on the part of few Congress leaders both from central and state.

Terming the massive mandate in favour of CPM as unexpected and unnatural, INPT leaders said that the ruling party had been trying to wipe out the INPT well before the election and finally it got success.

INPT leaders also sensed deep rooted conspiracy against the party, party general secretary Jagadish Debbarma said “Right from the delimitation of Assembly constituencies to preparation of electoral rolls- the ruling party had used its administrative power as much as possible that resulted in debacle of Congress-INPT combine.

Debbarma further claimed there was a strong wind against the Left Front but it could not be capitalized due to ‘unknown reasons.

On the future plan, Debbarma said a meeting of Member of Central Committee (MCC), party’s policy making body would be held on April 26 to prepare a roadmap for party’s revival.
