SHILLONG: On a mixed day for Shillong-based teams, and teams from the North East as a whole, Langsning FC pulled off a 4-0 win over KGF Academy of Bangalore in a 2nd Division I-League match in Indore on Sunday.
The victory takes Langsning to the top of Group A. They have won three matches thus far, with one goalless draw.
Royal Wahingdoh FC and Rangdajied United both lost by the margin of 1-2 to Aizawl FC and Kenkre FC respectively.
Aizawl went up 2-0 against RWFC by the 46th minute before Ennio struck back just after the hour mark via a freekick to reduce the deficit.
However, despite the best efforts of the Wahingdoh players, an equaliser could not be found.
This was the Royals’ second defeat, but with three wins, they are still third in Group B and retain a chance to qualify for the next round.
Rangdajied, however, are in a worse position in Group A, having lost their second consecutive game – and third overall – this time to Kenkre.
They did win their previous two contests, though, and are not out of the contest yet.
They will next take on KGF Academy on 21 March.
Langsning will face Delhi United on 19 March, the same day that Royal Wahingdoh go up against PIFA Colaba.
Among other North East teams in action on Sunday were Luangmual FC, also from Aizawl, who lost 2-4 to Mumbai Tigers in a match postponed from Saturday.
Kohima Komets continued their rather poor run of performances in the League, with a 0-3 loss to Delhi United.
Meanwhile, Green Valley, of Assam, lost to Josco FC by the same margin.
Two teams from each group will move to the next round.
