SHILLONG: Chief Minister Dr Mukul Sangma on Tuesday said the ANVC would be taken into confidence on any alteration being made to the original agreed Text of Settlement by the Cabinet.

“The Cabinet is at liberty to fine tune the agreed Text of Settlement. But we would share it with the ANVC if there is any such fine tuning to the text to avoid any hiccups at the last moment,” Dr Sangma said while replying to a supplementary question raised by Independent legislator Saleng M Sangma during Question Hour on Tuesday. Replying to another supplementary by NPP legislator James K Sangma, the Chief Minister informed that the ANVC (B) is also part of the peace negotiations. He, however, maintained that the Government cannot make the agreed Text of Settlement public since it is still under active consideration of the Union Cabinet.

Mukul also refused to comment on the queries posed by James on whether the ANVC would have nominated members in the GHADC as per the Text of Settlement. He said that the basic objective of the negotiation is to empower the GHADC. Mukul also admitted that the agreed Text of Settlement would have an impact on the other two ADCs (KHADC and JHADC) in the State.
