SHILLONG: The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council Member Telinia S Thangkhiew has asked the PWD minister Sniawbhalang Dhar to take action against the dumping of garbage along the National Highway 40.

In a letter shot to the Minister, the KHADC member said that there are piles of garbage on the side of the road including the forest department land right from Gorkha Higher Secondary School, Upper Shillong,

“It is a matter of shame as the road is used by numerous tourists who visit Mylliem, SOhra and other tourist places,” she said while mentioning that she personally witnessed private vehicles from Upper Shillong dumping waste along the stretch.

She also suggested that steps should be taken to keep a check and prohibit vehicles from using the NH 40 as a dumping ground.
