Former Dy CM no more

SHILLONG, March 13: Former Deputy Chief Minister, Rowell Lyngdoh, one of the stalwarts in the state who used to be vocal against business tycoons entering into politics, passed away here on Sunday. He was 85.
Lyngdoh was among the former legislators of the state who got elected as member of the first Meghalaya Legislative Assembly in 1972, the first Assembly elections conducted after Meghalaya became a full-fledged state.
He left behind his wife, Milicent Saiborne and his four children. The former Deputy Chief Minister was unwell since March 3 due to heart complications.
His funeral service will be held at Laitumkhrah Presbyterian church cemetery in Lawjynriew on Tuesday at 1pm.
Lyngdoh was a six time MLA who had represented Mawkyrwat Assembly seat. He was also elected as the MDC to the KHADC once.
He was removed from the cabinet as Deputy Chief Minister in 2015 and later left the Congress to join the NPP ahead of the 2018 Assembly polls. He however unsuccessfully contested the 2018 Assembly polls. He was made the president of the NPP Mawkyrwat unit last year.
