New Delhi, March 13: Meghalaya Governor, Satya Pal Malik hinted his days in the Raj Bhawan could be numbered for constantly criticising the central government over the farmers’ issue.
Raking it up while speaking at an event organised by the Marwar Jat community in Jodhpur on Saturday, he warned the Modi government to not mess with the concerns of the farmers, stating that they might resort to violence.
The Governor, who left for Shillong on Sunday after a long stay outside, said he might lose his post for bringing up the farmers’ issue but he was not afraid of it.
Earlier, top BJP sources had indicated Malik would be replaced or sacked after the elections in Uttar Pradesh and four other states for constantly criticising the party, its parent organisation RSS and top leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Governor urged the Centre to keep its promise made to farmers. It was after the Centre’s assurance that they had called off their year-long agitation in December last year, he reminded.
Cautioning that the farmers might resume their protests if the Centre fails to keep its promise, he proclaimed that he can take on Modi and the Centre on the farmers’ issue because he still lives in a one-and-half room Delhi house.
At the same time, the Governor said he does not have any ‘enmity’ with the Centre. “I live in a one-and-half room house in Delhi and that’s why, I am able to take on PM Modi over the farmers’ issue,” he said.
