MAWKYRWAT, March 14: The Wah Nohriang bridge in South West Khasi Hills, which connects six villages in Phlangkynshi area, about 20 km from Mawkyrwat, on Sunday suffered minor damage after it was set ablaze by unknown miscreants.
Official sources informed that the incident reportedly happened at around 10 pm.
The police was then alerted by a group of people from Phlangkynshi area who were returning home.
The passers-by then continued their endeavour to tame the fire while waiting for firefighters.
It was only after the arrival of firefighters that the fire was doused.
Meanwhile, sources have informed that although the bridge has suffered minor damages, it is still risky for heavy vehicles to ply.
Officials from the PWD on Monday visited the spot to assess the damage, and the repair work is expected to be initiated in a few days’ time.
Village leaders from Domtynrong have, meanwhile, lodged a complaint at Mawkyrwat Police Station.
