RESUBELPARA, March 14: The move to call a meeting by the district administration of North Garo Hills (NGH) to discuss either the relocation of the Resubelpara C&RD Block to Damas or the creation of new C&RD Block for Mendipathar has not gone down very well with both the Congress and the All India Trinamool Congress venting their dissent.
AITC MDC from Resubelpara (Rongrong), Rinaldo K Sangma, through a letter to the district administration on Sunday, put forward his objections to the relocation.
Various residents had earlier written to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, seeking the relocation of the C&RD office from Resubelpara to Damas as the C&RD Block in Resubelpara fell under a municipal area.
“We don’t have a problem with the demand for a new C&RD Block in Damas and will support it. However, the demand to relocate it from Resubelpara is an absolute no-no. There is already a committee in Dainadubi for a similar demand so things should be worked out and worked for,” said Rinaldo.
Meanwhile, the Congress district president, Wilness Marak, has also objected the move.
“Resubelpara as a C&RD Block was created way back in the 1950s. It is one of the oldest blocks of the North East, not to mention the state. We oppose any move that shifts the Block elsewhere,” said Wilness.
Meanwhile, the meeting to discuss the issue pertaining to the relocation or creation of a new block will take place on Tuesday where all the Nokmas and Sordars of Resubelpara have been invited.
