SHILLONG, March 14: Chief Minister Conrad Sangma is hopeful that the next session of the Meghalaya Assembly will be conducted in the new building coming up in Mawdiangdiang, New Shillong Township, which according to him is making good progress.
“We hope to be able to hold the next Assembly session in new Assembly building,” Chief Minister told the House during the ongoing budget session, on Monday.
Crediting the present dispensation for initiating the construction of the new Assembly building after a prolonged wait, the CM said that the state government has decided to have the new administrative city in New Shillong Township.
“In the next three to five years, we will slowly be shifting the government administrative offices to the new administrative city for decongestion of Shillong,” he said.
According to him, the state government will have the scope to widen roads in some of the areas once these offices are shifted.
“We are also sure that we will be able decongest Shillong city through these decisive steps which have been a long-pending issue and find some solution in the coming years,” he said.
