TURA, March 14: Days after a resolution was moved in the ongoing Budget Session of the state Assembly for review and revamp of the state reservation policy, various groups from Garo Hills have now nudged Chief Minister Conrad Sangma against the move and aired their dissent.
North Shillong MLA Adelbert Nongrum last week moved a resolution on the floor of the House calling for review and revamp of the “outdated” state reservation policy.
The move has now rendered the groups in Garo Hills vexed, who have dashed off a letter to the chief minister, voicing their concern.
“As reported in certain newspapers on March 12, there has been a motion to review and revamp the state reservation policy in an Assembly session on March 10 by a member, who termed the policy as outdated. However, any move to modify, dilute or amend the policy at this juncture is not acceptable and we strongly oppose the move,” the local organisations said in their letter.
Calling for maintenance of the status quo on the policy, they also urged the chief minister to ensure that the move for modification, dilution or amendment of the said policy is not taken up for discussion during the ongoing Assembly Session.
