SHILLONG: East Khasi Hills Police on Monday last arrested a KSU member of South West Khasi Hills District for his alleged links with the banned outfit HNLC.

Assistant finance secretary of the KSU South West Khasi Hills District unit, Francis Shylla, was arrested by a police team led by East Khasi Hills Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime), Vivek Syiem for allegedly lending a helping hand to the HNLC by providing its cadres with a hiding place.

Shylla, who was released on Tuesday evening, stated that he was on his way to Shillong on Monday when the police stopped the vehicle he was travelling on at Pomlum in Mawsynram and made the arrest.

“I was asked to introduce myself and unknowingly, they (Police) asked me to go with them to Mawsynram PS alleging me of having links with the HNLC,” he said.

Meanwhile, the KSU South West Khasi Hills unit on Wednesday condemned the high-handedness of the police stating that the Union had no links with the HNLC and demanded the ASP (Crime) Vivek Syiem to produce evidences to prove the alleged involvement of the Union with the banned outfit.
