SHILLONG: Nongkrem MLA Ardent Basaiawmoit on Thursday spoke in the Assembly about the Clean Politics Campaign (CPC) which he had launched in the State to create awareness among the people. Taking part in the discussion on an effective Lokayukta Bill, Basaiawmoit said that the CPC, Meghalaya Chapter was started by a group of individuals who were deeply concerned with rampant corruption in the State. “Corruption is a serious enemy to growth, prosperity and the rights of the people. It is the main impediment to good governance and development and undermines the basic fundamentals of every system,” he said. While asserting that the CPC does not directly target corruption but aims at addressing issues that lead to it, Basaiawmoit said that the Campaign stresses on the need to understand what is the scope and purpose of politics.
