SHILLONG, March 18: The state government is likely to re-impose the odd/even arrangement for plying of vehicles in Shillong Urban Agglomeration to ease traffic congestion in the capital city.
Transport Minister, Dasakhiatbha Lamare said the department will hold a meeting with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma next week to discuss ways and means to ease the menace of traffic congestion in Shillong.
“If we have no other option we will revert back to the odd-even system to control the traffic jams in Shillong. But we are yet to finalise anything,” Lamare said.
Replying to a query, he said that it will be difficult to think of having a flyover or skywalk in Shillong city due to space congestion.
“The state government has already decided to shift many government offices to New Shillong Township to ease the traffic congestion. But it is going to take time,” the minister said.
