Ranjan K Baruah is upbeat about The Dark Secrets of Tonhi to be released on 18 April

BLACK MAGIC has been prevailing in our society. Though our society has made progress, we can still find some people violating human rights.

Witch-hunting is still there in some parts of Assam. A similar kind of black magic is prevalent in some parts of Chhattisgarh, and Find Studioz has produced a movie to bring this issue into limelight.

The film titled The Dark Secrets of Tonhi deals with murder of women on the pretext of being ‘tonhi’ (black magic woman) and is set to released on April 18. It is important that the issue gets focus so that remedies can be found and lives of innocent people saved.

The country has witnessed many protests highlighting crime against women and this issue might be in focus again after the release of the movie. The Dark Secrets of Tonhi is a realistic film based on superstitious beliefs of some Chhattisgarh villagers. The state government there has banned the practice of tonhi to stop violence against women, but instances involving murder still take place.

The movie has two nude scenes but the filmmakers are confident that the censor board would have no objection to them as the actress has covered her body parts with necklace in the scene. “We would like the censor board to pass the scenes as it is, since the script of the movie demands it. When they (censor board) cleared such scenes in movies like Fire and Bandit Queen, there is no reason to censor the scenes in The Dark Secrets of Tonhi, which is based on real life incidents,” said producer Rebecca Changkija who is originally from Nagaland.

The movie is directed by Shiraz Henry and produced by Rebecca Changkija and Ajay Najat under Find Studioz banner. The film features Natasha Sikka, J Brandon Hill, Alex Peters, Smita Siah and Priyanka Joshi in the lead roles.
